The Countdown Starts Now: 21 Days Left

Alright, here we go again....I know my last post was in mid of June, even before we celebrated midsommar here in Sweden, but for some reason I neglected the blog and preferred skype...
Sorry for that, but now I am back here and will give my very best to keep you updated about me, myself and my life or so...
Just in case that someone wonders why I switched to Englisgh..well, I am too lazy to write in both German and English and just to make it available for all people I got to know and like during the last years, I will stick to English.

However, let's go back to the actual purpose of this post....the revival of the blog plus a short overview what is going on in the upcoming month..
As the title already presumes, time has come to say good bye to Sweden.....I am heading to Africa soon soon. Most of you know already where I am going to, but maybe not everyone is sure about what I am gonna do there.
Well, let's put it like this:
On November 9th (which is in exactly three weeks from today on) I will jump on the plane to Freetown, Sierra Leone, West Africa. And on February 6th, 2009 I am supposed to be back in Germany.
I do not that much what I am gonna do there yet, but what I know is that I will work for the non-governmental organisation (NGO) "Campaign for Good Governance" (http://www.slcgg.org) and will try to support the in their "Justice and Human Rights" Programme, since (who would have guesses) I am gonna focus on human rights one more time. Further, I plan to do the data collection for my master thesis there which will most likely deal with the question of human security and human rights and the validity of an integrated approach - more information will follow, it is not as boring and maybe scary as it sounds ..... I promise
I will also add some more information about Sierra Leone in the nearer future. Just to give a short overview:
Located in Western Africa (neighbours are Guineau and Liberia) Sierra Leone was suffering from an incredible brutal and violent civil war for more than ten years between governmental forces and rebells. In 2002 the final peace agreement was signed and approved. The conflict became a big issue on he political agenda due to its origin in economic mismanagement (or corruption) and the highly percentage of children among the soldiers on both sides.
When the conflict officially found its end, the country was in a devastating situation. There was a high need for reconciliation, reconstruction and peacebuilding. Although the UN at least pretended to try their best, until now Sierra Leone is still one of the poorest countries in the world and is rankes last in the Human Development Index (http://hdr.undp.org/en/statistics/). However, the country is safe, no worries about that....

And yes, for sure I am a bit excited, but not scared. Right now I am even missing the time to be too concerned, it will hit me just before I leave but then it is too late....my biggest worry right now is my visa. I applied a couple of weeks ago and just hope that they will send it back on time, otherwise I have to go to Bonn what I have my stop over in Germany (Nov 3-9) and fight for my rights....ääääh, visa. No...seriously I am sure everything will be going ok..

Besides these plannings I am happy with my life. As you might know, I do hate saying Good Bye, so you maybe imagine in which mood I am two weeks before I have to leave Göteborg and it grandios people behind....
And I am bit sad that I won't be home for Christmas, I will miss you guys big time.....if you want, jump on the plane and fly down to the beautiful beaches of Sierra Leone...we would rock! (Cat and Kathrin, I will keep a cold (hahah, no) beer for you....join me!!!)

But there is no time and no reason for complaints! I am happy to get the chance to see again complete new things and cannot wait to make new experiences...

Well, anyway, I do miss you and will miss you even more when I am in Freetown. 2009 will rock and we will see each other again...

Today's special hugs go to Wiebke, Sina, my parents, Sanaz, Chels and Great (bday girl)!

Take care! / Passt auf euch auf! / Ha det bra!

PS: Never buy Sushi from a gas station - good advice I got from a friend of mine :-)
